AUTUMN TERM 2018

REMEMBRANCE SERVICE

On Friday 9th November, Year 6 led a poignant service to commemorate those who died in the conflict 100 years ago.  They took time to tell the stories of the men of Barrow who so bravely gave their lives for our freedom, before reading beautifully written reflective poems.  They followed this with a carefully selected Bible reading from Matthew 5.

Superbly done Year 6.

ISLAMIC CENTRE VISIT

Yesterday, Years Five & Six visited the Islamic Resource Centre in Scunthorpe.  They were warmly welcomed by Mr Ahmed who talked to them about the Islamic faith and showed them how Muslims pray.
The children then asked questions before exploring the information and resources that had been provided.  At the end of the visit, Mr Ahmed talked to the children about some of the similarities between Christianity and Islam.  He explained that he believed members of all faiths should try to be the best versions of themselves that they could be and encouraged the children to be true to themselves and their faith.  As we were leaving, the children were offered translations of the Quran, so that they could read the stories for themselves and look for stories that were similar to Bible stories, if they wished.  Mr Ahmed complimented the children on their behaviour, knowledge and questions.  It was a valuable learning experience, which we hope we will be able to repeat in the future.

YEAR 6 CROSS COUNTRY

A reflection of the event, written by one of the pupils:

Cross Country Competition

Today, I completed Cross Country.  It was tough but fun.  I felt tired but I carried on.  The thing I was aiming for was to be in the top five in our school.  It was hard, but I did it.  I came third for the girls.  We had to run a mile, but I was determined to do it.

This was a new experience for me.  I had never done Cross Country until today and I’m so happy I took part.  The biggest achievement from today was that I ran most of it.  The only bits I walked were up and down hills.  I am proud of what I did and I would definitely do it again.  Also, I’m not just proud of myself, I’m proud of all my friends as they all got to the finish line.

When we got to the finish line everyone clapped and said well done.

Christmas Service Dec 21st led by Years 3 and 4 - Holy Trinity Church

As always the children led a super service to end the year.  It combined a mix of storytelling of the Christmas narrative with actions, traditional songs, an excellent recorder section as well as a beautiful choir performance. Mrs Kipling joined us to deliver Bishop Christopher's Christmas message before Rev. Liz rounded it off with a blessing.  It is no wonder that parents kindly said 'Fantastic service, well delivered.  You can tell how much time children and staff have out into it."
Merry Christmas to all!

CO-OP OPENING CEREMONY

Mrs Poustie, together with Summer and Nathaniel (Head Girl & Head Boy) attended the opening ceremony of the new Co-op in the village.

Co-op staff members then visited school to present us with a wonderful hamper.
