REMEMBRANCE SERVICE
On Friday 11th November at 10:45am the children from Year 6 at John Harrison led 'another poignant and touching service' as described by the parents. The children researched and explained the symbolism of the poppy before selecting hymns and prayers that they thought fitting. Perhaps most powerful of all, was the suggestion by the children to create a large image of a soldier on which to place all poppies. Parents were invited to write their own message on the back of the poppy and place these on the soldier, so that all of the community could particpate.
On the back of the Year 6 poppies, children visited the cenotaph in Barrow and ensured every name was honoured by writing it on their own poppies.
In a the words of a parent 'Lovely thought out service. Well done Year 6. We will remember them.'
LUNCHEON CLUB - CHILDREN IN NEED
Our Luncheon Club members joined us for a delicious meal. The theme this month was Children in Need, with the raffle raising £30.80! We think Mr Thompson looks very dapper in the tie he won.
ACTIVE PLAYTIMES
We have introduced 'Active Playtimes' for every child Y1-6. This is a time for the children to be active in a variety of ways, encouraging the development of healthy active lifestyles. Currently the activities include: skipping, target games, football, running, throw & catch games and relay races. Each class also participates in 'Activate' which makes up the thirty minutes of the sixty minutes physical activity recommended by the Chief Medical Officer ( the remaining thirty minutes should happen out of school).
SPORTS AMBASSADOR TRAINING
Four of our pupils travelled to The Pods, in Scunthorpe, to take part in a Sports Ambassador Training session. A fun time was had by all!
DRUMMING WORKSHOP
What an amazing afternoon! All our pupils attended a drumming workshop, run by Status Quo drummer, Jeff Rich.
Twelve of our Year 6 pupils successfully completed the Animal Agent Reading Challenge during the Summer holiday.
TOUR OF BRITAIN
We didn't let the rain spoil our fun. All pupils and staff found a good spot to watch the race travel through Barrow. We even had sirens wailing and drivers waving!
